Entropy Flow Through Near-Critical Quantum Junctions

چکیده

This is the continuation of cond-mat/0505084. Elementary formulas are derived for the flow of entropy through a circuit junction in a near-critical quantum circuit, based on the structure of the energy-momentum tensor at the junction. The entropic admittance of a near-critical junction in a bulk-critical circuit is expressed in terms of commutators of the chiral entropy currents. The entropic admittance at low frequency, divided by the frequency, gives the change of the junction entropy with temperature — the entropic “capacitance”. As an example, and as a check on the formalism, the entropic admittance is calculated explicitly for junctions in bulk-critical quantum Ising circuits (free fermions, massless in the bulk), in terms of the reflection matrix of the junction. The half-bit of information capacity per end of critical Ising wire is re-derived by integrating the entropic “capacitance” with respect to temperature, from T = 0 to T =∞.

Entropy Flow in Near-Critical Quantum Circuits

Near-critical quantum circuits close to equilibrium are ideal physical systems for asymptotically large-scale quantum computers, because their low energy collective excitations evolve reversibly, effectively isolated from microscopic environmental fluctuations by the renormalization group. Entropy flows in near-critical quantum circuits near equilibrium as a locally conserved quantum current, o...

Adhesion-induced Phase Separation of Biomembranes–Effective Potential and Simulations

We present theoretical analyses and numerical simulations for the adhesion-induced phase separation of multi-component membranes with two types of ligand-receptor complexes (junctions). We show that after integrating all possible distributions of the junctions, the system can be regarded as a membrane under an effective external potential. Mean field theory and Gaussian approximation are used t...

Lower bound on the entropy of boundaries and junctions in (1+1)-dimensional quantum critical systems.

A lower bound is derived for the boundary entropy s=lng of a (1+1)-dimensional quantum critical system with boundary under the conditions c≥1 on the bulk conformal central charge and Δ1>(c-1)/12 on the most relevant bulk scaling dimension. This is the first general restriction on the possible values of g for bulk critical systems with c≥1.

Choked Flow Characteristics of Subcritical Refrigerant Flowing Through Converging-Diverging Nozzles

This paper presents the experimental results the choked flow characteristics of a subcritical refrigerant through a converging-diverging nozzle. A test nozzle with a throat diameter of 2 mm was designed and developed. The influence of operating conditions on the choked flow characteristics, i.e., the pressure profile and mass flow rate under choked flow conditions are investigated. The results ...

Entanglement in quantum critical phenomena.

Entanglement, one of the most intriguing features of quantum theory and a main resource in quantum information science, is expected to play a crucial role also in the study of quantum phase transitions, where it is responsible for the appearance of long-range correlations. We investigate, through a microscopic calculation, the scaling properties of entanglement in spin chain systems, both near ...
